Second Life is a place where I come to live out my digital life. It is where I meet with my friends and family from all over the world. I am not trying to recreate myself as I am in real life, but to have a distinctive, online identity that I can call mine. To do so, I like to roleplay. When do so, I take time posting an emote, because I think about what I am going to describe and attempt to do so in a detailed way, but always trying to keep it concise.
Because I do not use voice, I pay close attention to local chat and IM; I also take my time to read the profile of the people that interact with me. The way I interact with others has made me sensitive to a few things, namely:
- I do not tolerate being ignored in local chat or IM, to the extent that it triggers me.
- When I am in a submissive headspace, I need to be informed about what will happen to me and for how long. I dislike being kept in the dark, manipulated or misled.
- When I am in a dominant headspace, I will not be spoken down to, looked down at, or considered ‘not-dominant’ because of my gender. Dominance is genderblind, and you should know better.
- I have trust issues.
If anyone crosses these red lines, they have earned a blackballing from me.
Blackballing someone means that I block them and permanently derender them. By that I mean that I choose to not be bothered by their sight or words ever again. Effectively, a blackballed person ceases to exist to me.
So far, the people who have earned the dubious distinction of being blackballed by me are the following:
- Arnie Simpson (arniesimpson) – for making fun of my appearance and my emotes.
- Herodot (DomHerodot) – for multiple instances of disparaging comments in spite of my explicit limit about slurs.
- Arlena (arlena3) – for racist comments and disrespectful language.
- Lana (brunnila) – for breach of trust.
- Jacco Fenutzini – for routinely ignoring my limits regarding RL.
- Flystoner (flystoner) – for repeatedly ignoring my local chat.
- North Habsburg – for breaking my trust and repeatedly ignoring my dominance because in his “natural order” worldview females must always be submissive to males.
If your name is in the list above, do not be surprised if I do not respond to your local chat or your IMs. I have not just blocked you: I have chosen to eliminate you from my sight.
