Let’s admit it. When we engage in sexual activities in Second Life, they are very sterile and without consequences.
Second Life allows sex to be disease free and pregnancy free, but that same fact makes sex… well, dull. There is no thrill, and most importantly no risk. To change that — and not be subjected to having to wear a HUD like Mama Allpa, Deciduan or Tantra — it occurred to me that there could be an alternative to HUDs. So, I devised a completely voluntary risk system, based on Dungeons and Dragons dice rolls, for every time I engage in sex.
When I have an unprotected sexual encounter, there are three checks that I run: fertility, ovulation, and conception. All the checks need to be successful for me to conceive. To determine the outcome, I use the DnD dice roller in the following way:
The risk of pregnancy is determined by three factors: Fertility, ovulation, and conception.
- Fertility is determined by a 1d100 roll, which is successful if it is greater than 50.
- A successful fertility roll triggers ovulation, a 1d100 roll which is successful if it is greater than 50.
- A successful ovulation roll triggers conception, a 1d100 roll which is successful if it is greater than 65.
So now you know, fellows: If you don’t put a virtual rubber, your digital swimmers will behave exactly like they would in RL.
